Mental skills

ImageThe basics of your physical game—grip, stance, ball position, etc—are not unlike the basics of your .mental game.  Both require frequent checking and tweaking to keep them strong.  And both can easily slip from good to bad with little notice.  If you don’t know what they are, how can you fix ‘em?

About me

My name is Palmer Gifford and I play golf for Olentangy Orange school. I play a lot at highland lakes and that is my favorite course to play. When I go play I usually play with my dad and my brother. Then we go to the grill there and we eat with other people ad have a fun time. I like to swim at the lakes also and i like to play with friends.

Wedges and stats

Hitting wedges the right distance is one of the toughest things for average players. They tend to make a full backswing, no matter how long the shot, and then try to apply the right amount of hit at impact. When you manipulate the swing like that, you’ll mis-hit shots and struggle to control distance.

For starters, make sure the lofts on your wedges are evenly spaced, like 48, 52 and 56 degrees. If you have a pitching wedge at 48 and a sand wedge at 58, that gap is too big. You’d have to learn too many partial shots with the pitching wedge.

Hitting irons

Have proper equipment. Today’s equipment and balls are not necessarily tailored for 7 – 8 degree drivers. That is a thing of the past. Getting the ball up in the air on a good trajectory is the first step to driving the ball longer. Many touring pros regularly use 9 and 10 degree drivers and drive the ball 300 plus yards. Today’s average driver loft for amateurs is 11.5 degrees. Plus, you will get much more consistency with a more lofted driver.

Putting

The good way to putt is to keep your arms straight and push them forward a little bit. then when you do it pull the club back and then swing forward and then you want to go and learn from the best putters in golf. All golfers hear lots of putting tips, sometimes even when we don’t want to (we all have that guy in our group, right?). And every now and then we even hear a great tip, one that actually works for us. So what’s the best putting tip you’ve ever received – the one tip that helped you the most on the greens?

Equitment

The kind of clubs you need to use are any kind that you feel comfortable with. I have the new Tittlist AP2 and they work great but I had my old ones for about 10 years. You can keep clubs about 10-15 years before you should replace them and get the new ones. when you get new clubs make sure you try out multiple kinds of clubs. When you get clubs make sure you try out grips because those are what decide the difference between the good play and the bad play.
